Show business!

Played a show at Liars Club
in the Big Windy last night. Good times, the opening band were some young enthusiastic dudes who drove up from Cham-Bana, Il, the crowd was good and Peen Simmons came out with his old man which was nice. Played an Orange Dual Terror through the house Marshall 4x12”, an Epi LP Jr and a Dano baritone. We started later than we thought, around 11:30 but it didn’t matter, the crowd was still strong.

What's your approach to playing a Bari in a three piece w/ a bassist? I've always wanted one, but I worried it'd just be another special effect guitar in the studio and I couldn't use it much live.

The same as a regular guitar. The baritone occupies the frequencies between a bass and a guitar so it sounds like a guitar but deeper. We have four tunes that I use a baritone on, it’s a nice sonic variety both live and on record.

I figured you'd have to either play higher up the neck or dial in a specific tone to keep a bari and bass from getting in each other's sonic space.

I use the same tone for Bari and guitar. The only difference would be when I was using a humbucker equipped Les Paul that had much higher output than the Dano lipstick tubes. But the fix was to turn the amp up a touch when I plugged in the Dano. The other major difference is that unless you have visegrips for hands stringbending is a lot more challenging. I’ll see if I can post some baritone video later.

i don't know a lot about Bari stuff, playing wise. the only thing i've really seen using one is Brian Setzer (BSO)
and it's pretty good, imo. is this anything like what you do?

Was this on Friday? I think there was some sort of charity show there. Sorry that I missed it. It totally slipped my mind. I know you guys are playing Fitzgerald's soon. That's right down the street from me, but my budget is very tight right now. Eh. Maybe next time.

It was last Friday. Not playing Fitzgeralds, after one fuzz filled note they would shut down the power and forcibly eject us.
:):):)

Here’s one from the other night, I’m playing it all over the neck. The only pedal is a Boss GE7 with a slight mid boost which I have on for regular guitar too.
