Say it isn't so! John Sykes passes at 65.

John Sykes of Thin Lizzy, Tygers of Pan Tang, Blue Murder and Whitesnake fame, died of cancer at 65.

This one is tough. I've seen him twice in his version of Thin Lizzy. He gave me an unsolicited 'bro' handshake at the conclusion of one of his gigs.

He's in my top 5 list of favorite guitarists.

RIP. Never got to see him live unfortunately but his playing and songwriting on the Whitesnake 1987 album is a landmark on the rock history books IMHO.

I always wanted one of those Edwards John Sykes Les Pauls, but Edwards stopped making them awhile ago :(

Such a great player. Shame he more or less wasted his talent on not really doing anything the last 20 years or so - or rather, making stuff happen wasn't his forte by the looks of it. Plenty of stories on various projects and albums but nothing ever materialized.

I'm really bummed by this one. He was one of my heroes for sure. Amazing player/singer/writer.
