Ross' book is pretty much a standard part of my rhythm guitar instruction regardless of the students' style...the way that he teaches strumming and muting techniques is massively helpful for getting a player to gain better control over their instrument as well as just strumming 16th notes in time.

Ross is a great guy. That was his forte at MI when I was there. Norman Brown has some really great 16th note comps as well that he taught us back then.
