Retired folks. What's up with people thinking

Dudeman1967

blah, blah, blah...
my time is not valuable anymore? It's like people think I have nothing to do or anywhere to be.

Twice in the last month two service providers left me hanging or said I need to mellow when people are running late. I've known these people and paid them for quite a long time. I don't like people wasting my time.

I guess I should stop mentioning I'm retired.

What do you do?
Sorry to bitch. Retirement is fucking wonderful overall.

I demand a better window of arrival time. And I never tell them that I'm retired.

I don’t mention I’m retired. Always refer to my calendar when setting it up. The last two I’ve had techs call when they’re in route to me and say from where. Lets me run errands in town and get back in time. Small town.

They don't just do it to retired people, it happens to all of us. It's frustrating to take some time off from work to hang around waiting on a service tech or contractor to show up, only to have them call and reschedule. But as @DinoMikeSr said, there's no reason to let them know you're retired, but it may not make a difference.

One is my barber. She has been shitty this year with being on time. I used to be the first appointment of the day. Worked out great. Somehow they scheduled someone before me and now she is 20-30 minutes late every time. I finally said to her that tht's 6 to 8 hours in the waiting room per year. I jokingly said I deserved a lunch period and two paid 15 min breaks. She said that I'm retired and should learn to slow down. I just looked at her confused. We might have fixed the problem. If not I'll find someone else. I can't really not tell her that I retired. it's been a 5 year relationship.

The guy that finally fixed my washer was a friend before he ever fixed any of my appliances. Seemed like he would be happy to hear of my good fortune. Anyway apparently it took a week to get the part. When he came to put in the timer switch in he said he found one $30 cheaper. That's why it took a week. I told him I spent more of that at the landromat in the last week and I was full up on dirty laundry again. He said he figured I was retired and had the time more than the money. What?

He is a friend and saved me about $75-100. I might just call a stranger next time so I can bitch without pissing off a friend.

I told him I'm drawing 40% more take home than I was when I was working. Just call me and we can make time/cost decisions together. Frienship stil intact.

Just got off the phone with my finacial guy. Of course he knows I'm retired. We were setting up a meeting for this week. He said something to the effect of I guess any day will work for you now. What? I have a lot of shit to do this week.

My wife is out of town until Thursday.
I mentioned we could meet later on Friday because I didn't know my wifes schedule. I get in touch with my wife. Any time after 1:embarrassed:0 would work if he wants. He said he had to keep the 4:embarrassed:0. He said he would keep it short. I said I called to move the time up for his benefit. I would never call a 4:embarrassed:0 meeting on a Friday when I worked. I was hoping to get him out early on a Friday.

It's quite hilarious really. My old folks are retired. They stay at home all week doing very little and can't really go anywhere unless it's a Thursday to Sunday trip to their cottage because "what if someone comes to visit?" which happens about once a month. They actually think it's rude to other people them not being at home all the bloody time.

They just want someone to stop by and say, "hello in there....hello".

I'm 45 and still working full time plus a side hustle, wife, and two kids.

People do the same shit to me.

They also seem to think I'm doing nothing at any given time and can give them 100% of my attention for whatever they need.

The problem isn't retirement. The problem is that respect doesn't exist anymore.
