Remember when Christopher Cross filled in for Ritchie Blackmore on Deep Purple's U.S. debut?

I don't either.
This is the bold claim 'The Captain' is making in an excerpt from a book on yacht rock.
The legend of Christopher Cross continues to grow.
So far, Wikipedia is the only other source I found backing his story.

I did some digging and found no pictures or videos of Mr. Cross fronting Deep Purple.

I imagine Christopher took a " What would Ritchie do?" approach to said gig.

Feel free to ad fuel to the fire on the legend of Christopher Cross.

Yep and it was at that gig he was inspired and wrote the lyrics to what would become the song Sailing. Someone he could get the sound from an old beat up strat and traded it in for something more sailing like. What ever happen to my old strat.

I remember reading it from another source I believe there was a copy of the local newspaper someone posted on his Chris's twitter page or somewhere. he's got the skills

I have no idea who was playing when I saw Deep Purple in Atlanta in 1972 or 1973 at the Omni. I gave my brother two tickets for his birthday & he gave them right back to me. Yay! A little acid & Deep Purple is a great combination.

You saw the mark ll line up(Gillan, Glover, Blackmore, Lord, Paice)
Christopher Cross only played one show due to Ritchie being sick from a flu shot. That took place in San Antonio in 1970.

P.S.
I was semi goofing on him with the photo shopped Blackmore pictures. Christopher Cross is fantastic.
