Saturday morning was the Charleston Distance Run. This was the second time Paula and I have run it.

Last year, I finished in 2:34:27 at a 10:20/mile average pace and came in 380 out of 491.

This year, I finished in 2:26:12 at a 9:41/mile average pace and came in at 336 out of 494.

This is a road race through the streets of downtown Charleston and up into one of the suburbs called South Hills. The South Hills section is really pretty, but really grueling to get to.

We got really lucky with the weather. After being in the 70s overnight and upper 90s during the day for the past month, Saturday morning we woke up to the mid 50s with a projected high for the day of 75.

Didn't have the Garmins last year, but here's this year's map and data. It's the same course as last year.

And a few pics. There will be pics of the finish eventually, but these are all that I've found so far.

Me just after the start:

Me around mile 8. This is the bridge that crosses the river, just after the long downhill section of South Hills:

You really are mental.

A friend of mine ran a half marathon yesterday and said that it was one of the least enjoyable things he'd ever done and would never do it again.

You do these all of the time?!?!?:facepalm:

Not ALL the time.

However, for the next 2 months, I think we have a race every weekend. The shortest being a 10k, the longest being a 1/2 marathon...all on trail.

As I said, mental.

That was 2 and a half hours my mate wasted out of the pub yesterday morning :embarrassed:

Our race schedule:

Saturday, Sept 11: 5k Dam Race at Sutton Lake (we may or may not do this one)
Sunday, Sept 12: Helvetia 10k Trail Run
Saturday, Sept 18: Mountwood 10 Mile Trail Run
Saturday, Sept 25: Creek to Peak 1/2 Marathon Trail Run
Friday, Oct 8: Working an aid station for a 50 mile trail run
Saturday, Oct 9: Working an aid station for a 50k trail run
Sunday, Oct 10: Running a 1/2 marathon trail run
Saturday, Oct 23: Ace's New River Gorgeous 8 mile trail run (or a 1/2 Marathon at the same place...haven't decided)

There's also 2 races on Saturday, Oct 2 that we may do one or the other. One is a 10 mile trail run, but it's 2 1/2 hours from the house. The other is a 10k road run that's close by. Our 1 week vacation starts that weekend though, so we may not do either and just go camping or something.

You guys look way too happy at the 8 mile mark. I'd crawling by then. Congrats on the PR for the race though. My next race is in about 3 weeks. There is also a 10K I may run later this month - maybe. I felt like crap the last two times I went running this past weekend.

How did Mrs P do time wise? Better than last year?

She was a little slower this year than last year. :(
by a couple of minutes. I just can't seem to get any speed on me. I can go the distance. It just takes me a long time to get there. But, at least I wasn't last right.

I still say you're mental and this is coming from someone who's in the early planning stages of trying to cycle the length of Britain in 10 days next Summer.

Our chiropractor's 65 year old father just finished a bicycle ride from coast to coast in the US.

That's roughly 2500 miles.

Took him about 3 months, I think.

LEJOG is about 850 depending on what route you take and even now I'm really apprehensive as I really doubt I'll have the opportunity to put some proper miles on a real bike out in Qatar unless they have a velodrome somewhere

Finishing is winning. At least that is my philosophy when I run. I can't seem to get much speed up either.

I actually did feel pretty good at mile 8. Of course, mile 8, where the guy was taking pictures, was right at the bottom of the 2 mile long, shaded, downhill section.

Miles 8.5-15 really took it out of me though. :embarrassed:

Nice work guys, once again I get tired just looking at the pictures. I'd have to agree with Dave finishing would be winning for me.
