Question about Flo

When Flo said "Kiss my Grits"

was she secretly selling her own grits to customers that she made at home and brought to work? I mean Mel was obviously the cook at the diner so technically it should have been "Kiss Mels Grits" since he in fact was the one making the grits? I often wonder if this was why Flo left in 1980 due to a rift arisen between her and mel after Mel found out Flo was selling grits on the side?

"Grits" is waitress slang for all the crumbs and bugs and stuff that accumulates in their body hair during the course of a day. :embarrassed:

Only boys can sell grits. Says so right in the fine print.

I always thought 'kiss my grits' was a sexual innuendo. Like 'Sit on it' from Happy Days.

I always assume it was a way to get around tv censorship of the era. I always though she meant kiss my tits.

the most obvious 'normal' phrase used in the contexts she used it in would be kiss my ass. Like @dmn23 said, using cornmeal mush in place of that conjures up some concerning mental images
