Newsflash! Purple Rain isn’t really a very good song, is it?

I think Prince has much better songs than this one. Like infinitely better. In fact I would go so far as to say this song is bad!

Purple Rain is a great live song. Twenty thousand people singing it together was a wonderful experience. Although when I saw Prince at Madison Square Gardens he dragged it out for eighteen minutes IIIRC. It got tedious at ten minutes and the audience was straining to give a shit at fifteen.

Good but kind of overrated. There are at least three songs on that album that are better.

I like the melancholic guitar intro. It might be a tad long, but I'm in no hurry. He even has a shred lead at the end.
