Project taco suspension overhaul

The Toyota Tacoma I picked up recently was still rolling the oem TRD off-road package suspension that the truck was delivered with a couple hundred thousand miles and two decades ago.

At some point a set of ride rite air bags were installed on the rear, probably to deal with sagging rear leaf springs. The bags are fine if you’re loading/towing all the time but otherwise severely limit suspension travel and don’t really deliver a great ride. The front coil overs were shot and the front end was hanging low and the dampening nearly nonexistent.

anywho, looking at options for something that will be a great all around solution, I decided to go with a full suspension kit that would yield about a 2 inch lift in the process. ARB OME suspension kit:

My wife has a '98 TRD/SR5 Prerunner. It's the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned, and probably still on its original shocks as well at 256K.

Nice upgrade. Same as my wife's, except hers is red.

Hauls a small PA, 2 amps, 2 mains, 3 guitars, and all the trimmings.

Rides like a brand new truck and it's actually a fairly easy install if your bolts aren't rusted to the point of being seized.
