I jammed with a group of guys from work this afternoon and got to play a friend's Framus guitar. This is a pretty high end German made guitar. Body is swamp ash, maple neck, and rosewood fretboard. Frets were big and Plek finished with some odd edge filing that made them smooth like glass on the ends. Pickups are Duncans (cool rails, trembucker, and a vintage staggered single), and hardware is Framus branded stuff made by Warwick and Wilkinson. The guitar was a really impressive player. I think these are around 1500 bucks where I live. Seems like a fricken bargain based on how it played.

Neck joint was really cool, as was the back cut/body contour. It was super comfortable. neck seemed to be a long heel that was set deep into the body in a slot and then locked in place with the little plate and two screws. It looked weird but it felt stable and the neck didn't shift at all. It reminded me of the old Stephens extended cutaway designs of the old Nuno model Washburns. The video shows the contour and how it fits your hand really well.

Found a video with some details on the neck joint. Looks pretty cool.

How do you think it compares to something similarly priced here in the states, like a EBMM Silhouette?

Hmmm. It is better than an American Standard strat, even a really good example of one. I would say quality is on par with something like an Ernie Ball. The neck is a very fender modern C shape, and the scale is very fender, so the closest comparison is to a strat. I guess I would most compare it in my mind to the fender custom shop standard strats from before they went all relic crazy.

My first guitar was a '66 Framus acoustic which kinda kills part of the allure of that brand for me. OTOH, I'd like to sample their finer wares of the more contemporary era.
