Played a quad reverb today

Ack
73, beat to crap, grill cloth ripped, cab coming apart, but what beautiful, crystal clear, shimmering fender silverface tone. It's like a twin, only cleaner, with more bottom end. Here's a pic of one (not the one I played).

Fender also made a super six reverb, which is this amp and 6x10" - they are huge.

Was it the loudest amp ever? I think that was a Ted Nugent staple in the 70's for a while. Maybe those were called Super Twins?

Beastly!

Tons of mojo.

The other guitar player in our band had a Super Six. He traded it about a year ago for a Marshall head. He said it had about the best cleans he has ever heard - but the beast was way too heavy to move anywhere.

Nuge used super-twins, 6 of 'em. They had 6x6L6 output tubes in an ultra-linear configuration; 180w into 2x12".

Played through one for a while in high school. I don't have much recollection of it other than that it weighed a ton.

I've never played one, but so want to. If I came across one for sale at a reasonable price, I might just buy it just to say I have one.

The Quad Reverb, Super Six, Vibrosonic (1x15"), Twin Reverb and Dual Showman Reverb where identical chassis...100w at first and then the '77 and later 135w ultra-linear design. They all shared the same supplied schematic, Fender just added multiple diagrams to show all the different speaker configurations....

I've never quite figured out where they got the jump to 135-watts, it's not the ultra-linear part; ultra-linear power amps actually have a lower output that traditional pentode designs.

Higher b+? There is a speced 30v difference in the schematics you linked. That and the UL OT's.

the loudest cleans amp i've ever played was a silver face dual showman that was sitting on a really unusual fender cabinet.....very large, like almost 2-4x12 cabs high but not quite as wide.....it had like 2x181's in it. WOW.......it had clean and bottom that was really crazy....never seen another one like it.
