Many folks don't know that Ovation made some really cool electric guitars in the 70s. The Viper was perhaps one of the most conventional with its passive electronics and classic shape. Many players love these guitars for their distinctive looks, ergonomic feel, and cool tones. Made in the USA, the Ovation is a quality instrument. The unique body is made of maple for big tone. The 24.75 inch scale maple neck features a maple fingerboard with dot inlays. Dual Ovation single coils are hooked to conventional controls. Bright and clear, these pickups deliver a variety of tones. Ovations own bridge and Ovation branded tuners keep it rock solid. The finish is classic sunburst and is set off by black plastic. A very cool guitar for not a lot of cash!

This Ovation plays great and sounds very cool. The neck is slim and the action is good. Frets are fine for their age showing some dressing. The electronics offer a wide variety of tones. Everything works as it should. A very cool used guitar. This is a solid used guitar showing normal wear for its age. Moderate pick, clearcoat, and belt scratches, as well as some indents and dings. In overall good shape for a 1975 model. Comes in a hardshell case.

This Ovation is a great bang for the buck guitar. Nice feel, tone and looks for not a lot of cash. Many players are rediscovering Ovation solid bodies. Get this one while you can!

I kinda like it. I wonder what the pickups sound like?

Edit: here's Scott Grove with one of his. Sounds pretty good, playing starts around 6:embarrassed:0

I like it. There was one for sale on the local craigslist a few years ago that I wanted to grab, but it sold very quick for very little money. It was a nice metallic gray color.

Reminds me of the Taylor electric guitars.

I dig it. I have a '77 Ovation Preacher, which is similar to the Viper, but it's a double-cut with humbuckers, and has "stereo" output which splits the 2 pickups to separate outputs. Pretty cool guitar, with a unique sound and feel to it. Most either love them or hate them.

I was thinking the same thing. I like the looks of the Ovation electric better.

I was thinking that GE Smith got it back the wrong way round. The Taylors are reminiscent of the Ovations, which of course came first by decades.

Def would go for the Viper if money and, even more importantly, storage, were not a factor. But I'm at critical mass at this point.
