OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

You know, it just occured to me that perhaps Trump's firing of Comey was meant to be an olive branch to the Democrats (misguided as it might be). Maybe Trump realizes that even with a majority in Congress, Republicans are too fragmented to be effective, and after November 2018, it will only get worse. Perhaps he realizes that if anything is to get accomplished, it will be the Democrats that do it.

I'm sure this is giving Trump more credit than due, but could it be possible all of this bungling isn't really bungling, but instead a carefully orchestrated wrangling of the Republican party toward a path of self-destruction? Maybe Trump's long game is to get rid of Republicans who have repeatedly shown they do not negotiate or compromise (McConnell, Ryan, and the teabilly brigade), and get a functioning Congress that he can make deals with. There's nothing stopping him from later claiming that the wall, Muslim ban, and all of the other stupid things were just what the PARTY wanted. And, Trump, being a newbie and all, trusted THEM. See, Trump is a really a good guy. It was the PARTY that made him say and do all that evil stuff.

Naw...

Like I said from the beginning, I'm waiting for the "BaBaBooey". So I guess it's not coming.

"[Trump] had grown enraged by the Russia investigation, two advisers said, frustrated by his inability to control the mushrooming narrative around Russia. He repeatedly asked aides why the Russia investigation wouldn't disappear and demanded they speak out for him. He would sometimes scream at television clips about the probe, one adviser said. "

When the whole Trump thing started, I thought his plan was exactly what you are saying (well not exactly, but I thought he was trying to dismantle the GOP) but after watching him campaign and what he has done since elected, he isn't bright enough to do it. If he had other folks behind him, I'd buy it, but no way Bannon and the rest are trying to dismantle the GOP.

Bannon certainly wants to eliminate the moderates. I think that is his "dismantling".

Maybe it's selfish, maybe I'm sticking my head in the sand. I just can't watch or read the news anymore. My beloved Real Time with Bill Maher, Last Week Tonight, Colbert etc have become too difficult to watch as well. The news just keeps getting worse and more dangerously absurd. Even the satirical recaps just remind me of how awful DC and our nation has become. For my own sanity, I've had to distance myself from it all. It's just too much. As someone who's been fighting off chronic major depressive disorder their whole life, it's too risky and unhealthy to be the voraciously informed person I used to be.

I don't know how you guys do it. Kudos to you.

Hearing that Trump fired Comey was just a terrifying reminder of how insane the man is and how fucked we are under his administration. It just keeps getting worse.

Removing peoples right to free assembly, to protest etc... he's like Leonid Brezhnev with Tourette's and a lobotomy with a Napoleonic Complex to glue it all together.

(On Comey firing) Top Russian Diplomat To DC Press: 'Was He Fired? You're Kidding!'
Remember that Michael Flynn was Donald Trump's National Security Adviser until he got fired because the Washington Post published details of the dirt the authorities had on him.

One of the "dirts" they had on Flynn is that he had phone calls with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during the transition, and that it's possible they discussed some quid pro quo removal of sanctions against Russia.

Something I'm sure isn't being discussed with Exxon's Rex Tillerson today, right? (Nevermind.)

So now Lavrov is in Washington the morning after the Comey firing, and apparently after his overnight flight he hadn't heard the news? As reporters yelled at Tillerson to talk about the Comey firing, Lavrov blurted out:

"He's fired? You're kidding!"

If they were so involved, you would think the Russians would have been the first to know. idn_smilie

Reports: Comey Fired After Seeking More Resources For Russia Investigation

Amid widespread suspicion that the official reason for FBI Director James Comey’s firing—his handling last year of an investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server—was not the true reason for the ouster, several news outlets reported Wednesday morning that Comey had recently requested more funding and personnel for the bureau’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

The Washington Post, New York Times, and NBC confirmed that Comey had just days ago asked the Justice Department’s second in command, Rod Rosenstein, for more resources to support the inquiry into whether members of President Trump’s campaign colluded with the Russian government last year. Rosenstein wrote the memo, made public on Tuesday, recommending Comey be terminated.

Old Mitch McConnell never fails to let me down. Just when I think he can't possibly do anything more disgusting, he always figures out how to prove me wrong. McConnell not only does not want an independent investigation (ok, that's just politics), he wants Sessions to APPOINT an interim director of the FBI. Instead of making the existing deputy director head until someone can be confirmed, McConnell wants a hand-picked director that will stay in place until the Senate can confirm someone (and we all know how long they can drag that out).

You read it right - McConnell wants the Republican party to take over the FBI by coup. Simply unbelievable.
