OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

Bernie had a rally here in town on Sunday, and Trump and Cruz were both in town yesterday. Sean Astin, Rudy, is in town today stumping for Hillary.

It made me very sad to find out how many of my close friends are Trump supporters including one of the guys in my band. That last one hurt the most.

I cast my vote for Bernie this morning though so hopefully between now and November things don't get worse.

I am sharing this hear with you guys as I am bummed out a bit by how the Dem race has been going down. I have a close, very long time friend, who has been a Democrat long as I have known him. (closing in on 30 years, since we met clerking for the Washington State Appellate Court out of law school. Back then, I was nearly a libertarian.). He chose Hillary, and I chose Bernie. I have always been able to discuss issues with him, and we can get into passionate but civil arguments, and often we both modify our views as a result. We have engaged in private chats on FB, and on comment "threads" there, as I wanted to get his take. But I can't seem to get him to move past Bernie hate for what he sees as poor form in campaigning. It seems to me a lot of the discussion in the Dem race has degenerated to this level of flag waving and finger pointing. We are nearing the time when one or the other will be selected, and discussing the issues and policies over personalities will be important as we move to the next stage of this election. Just the potential S. Court nominees alone is enough reason to find common ground and vote for the Dem nominee regardless of who it is between these two. So, . . . I am just surprised at the state of the conversation with my friend, and generally as between the Dem supporters. I hope the candidates start to sheath their stilletos and show leadership to unite those supportign each of them. I know there are a few Bernie or Bust folks here, but sorry, that is how I feel about it.

I was hoping that whomever won the Democratic ticket would take the other as their VP. Seemed to me together they could take down whatever resistance Trump or Cruz could muster but the longer and more heated this gets the less of a chance I ever see that happening. :(

This kind of conflict is bound to happen when the campaign begins 2+ years before the election. After a while things just get salty.

Yep, it's pretty depressing. Things started amicably enough--with both D candidates stating their fondness/respect for one another. But it's devolved into name calling and grandstanding. I, too, was hoping for the winner to choose the loser as VP so that, together, they could go on to crush the R opponent in the general. With the amount of crazy on the other side right now, it's probably the most important presidential election of my lifetime.

ya know......now i feel a little guilty. i haven't followed almost ANYTHING the dem side has been doing. mainly because i've always felt that Hill had it locked up, and there was nothing really to think about. Hill is Hill and we all pretty much know where she stands on just about everything. she's been yelling it for 20 years. (or more).

the repub side has been where my focus has been. hoping for trump and cruz to SOMEHOW implode/explode.....something. not so much because i love kasich, but because he's the only sane one on that side of the isle. and also, he's the only one that really has qualifications for the job. all cruz has done as a senator is proselytize continuously. that ain't leadership.

i think that if trump gets the nomination the general election will be one of the worst landslide victories (for hillary) since nixon.
these primaries, esp. repub, have been nothing but a popularity contest by the sychophant supporters of cruz and trump. they are in no way a realistic cross section of the general voting public. i believe trump will get his toupee handed to him.
imo.

You know, for all of the finger pointing and name calling that happened when the Trump rallies got ugly the protesters here in California have been just as bad or even worse: http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/...thers-at-costa-mesa-rally-20160428-story.html

The only upside to this is that my father-in-law will make a couple of grand replacing the police equipment these dildos destroyed since he supplies the city of Costa Mesa with their vehicular emergency equipment.

It's incredibly depressing to me. So much for moral high grounds. And since I live here my newsfeed is full of Trump supporters who had a field day with this shit.

Yeah, there is nothing gained by attacking cops and destroying cop cars. From what I can tell, most of the protesters behaved well, but others came along and started the violence. It only takes a few to ruin the efforts of the many.

Unfortunately Trump set the low bar. I agree with your disappointment on how it is playing out, but had Trump not started with his "I'd like to punch that protestor in the face" bullshit it might not be so bad now. You can't call for a class/race war then be shocked when the other side takes up your tactics.

As for the Dem infighting, I blame their handlers. They could still pull it out if they make the effort, but I think Hil is counting on support from Bernies supporters that she hasn't earned. This is her election to lose, and she has a decent chance to do just that.

i don't believe for one blue second that those who committed the violence did so out of "passion". they came purposely to commit violence. that was always their plan.

I really wish people would stop saying Kasich is a sane option. He's not. At all. He's been terrible for Ohio and is almost as much of a religious weirdo as Cruz, he just hides it better and doesn't claim (yet...) that God chose him for this. He's Ohio's version of Scott Walker, is anti-union, anti-police and fire, and has given tax breaks to Ohio companies that outsource most of their jobs, before later moving their corporate headquarters. He's a disaster.

I think I agree with you although I still think its a shame. But people are the same pretty much everywhere you go.

Preach on!

I agree with an earlier comment about the length of the campaign cycle. Our next president won't have his or her hand off the Bible at the inauguration before the next campaign begins.

i don't believe for one blue second that those who committed the violence did so out of "passion". they came purposely to commit violence. that was always their plan.

Two separate statements. The passion statement was about the entire election cycle, not just about these protesters.
