My Thanksgiving in Minnesota was just awesome.
We took the Red Eye out of LAX with rain and landed at MSP Airport with snowfall on the ground. We just got to my mother-in-laws place and the snow front scheduled to come in did just that. Looking out, the winter wonderland was a beautiful sight as snowflakes the size of dimes were falling. For a Hawaii native and SoCal transplant, this is great stuff.
On Thanksgiving Day, the sun came out and brightened up the beautiful day. The sky was clear and the temp was 8 degrees with a -4 wind-chill.
My niece with help from my wife made an awesome Thanksgiving dinner. Twelve of us had an awesome feast and lots of leftovers for the following two days.
When we left my niece’s place around 9:30pm, the temp went up to a warm 15 degrees. It always trips me out that the cold garages make natural refrigerators for drinks and such.
On Saturday I got to meet up with another Wiener list member – Aliensporebomb. We met at Twin Town Music which was superb little shop with a lot of treasures waiting for anyone who walked in. It was great to chat with ASB about music and other things. It is really too bad our visit was really short because ASB and I share other things in common which made it even cooler. Well at least I know someone in Minnesota who isn’t my wife’s family member or friend and have my own newly found friend.
As for the treasures in Twin Town, I had to turn my head because 1) don’t have the money and 2) I don’t want to have to ship anything back home right now. Besides I have other things to get anyway that is on the list that need attention. However, what I was drooling over really were two Fender Twin Reverb amps. One was a Blackface for $1500 and the other a Silverface for about a $1000. Now if a Silverface Deluxe was there, I might have had a HNAD if the price was right – Thank God No.
This day ended with dinner at Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que in Maple Grove. We met our other niece and sister-in-law for a grand ole time. Heard great playing blues overhead as I chowed down on the Rib-n-Rib meal. The Cole Slaw was to die for along with the Garlic Mashed Potatoes. The waitress messed up on my order and gave me french fries. She corrected it and brought me the right stuff - the fries went into the trash. Needless to say I could only eat 4 bones and had to finish up the rest the next day.
The ribs on the left are St. Louis Ribs and the one on the right are the Memphis Ribs.
On Sunday we went bowling and that was just hilarious as I haven’t bowled in over 30+ years. All in all it was a great short vacation and I look forward to going back again in a few years or maybe sooner.
