Now that we're into a couple weeks of Corvfefe what have you been creating in the kitchen?

MAKE THIS RIGHT NOW: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.marionskitchen.com/amp/creamy-sri-lankan-prawn-curry

Stupidly easy and tasted amazing. Restaurant quality.

Made roti (first try, turned out ok) and blanched broccoli. The only thing I'd change is to make a gallon of it it was so good.

Mrs JBJ is out so I tried Irn Bru battered fish and chips as an experiment.

Did it in the Foodi a fryer instead of deep frying. It was alright. The double cooked thyme and paprika chips on the other hand :thu:

I'm making a risotto with homegrown sweet peas this week. Looking forward to it. It's my first time growing shelly peas, and they're delicious.

No, a cheap knockoff.

We have some Le Crueset items that are still at the other house though. They look nicer but I’m not sure the food tastes any better.
I've lusted after a big 8QT dutch oven from Le Crueset for years and just can't justify the price tag. The one I want is $450 last I checked. I told my wife if they go on sale at the outlet mall I don't care if it's lavender, just buy the damn thing!

I inherited this from my brother...it's a "26" which is the 5.5 qt. ....I cook my ramen in it :embarrassed:

The local TK Maxx usually has a bunch of Le Creuset stuff, not cheap, but a lot less than buying it from Le Creuset themselves or a more up market shop.

I personally can't see how they could be that much better than a cheaper brand - it's not that different to cast iron pans: a £30 one from Amazon is going to do the same job as a fancy one 3 times the price.

But I digress.

Mrs JBJs birthday today. We're usually on holiday eating somewhere nice but tonight I'm doing an Indian mezze.

We have:

Spiced onions: http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/25044/spiced-onions.aspx seriously good and really easy

Chilli / Pakora sauce. She found a recipe online but I tried it and it sucked so I made my own. Really simple and tasty so it's gone in the recipe book.

Sweet potato and onion pakora

White potato and onion pakora

Chicken tikka

Seekh kebabs

And I'm going to make some chapatis or naan bread too so I better get on with it so it has time to rise.

I'm sure an off brand enamel coated cast iron will certainly hang with LC but I've wanted one for so long I refuse to settle. :corksniffer:

Like anything it comes down to aesthetics and perhaps reliability/durability. The peice you might be able to abuse and just know it's still gonna work flawlessly. The piece that gives you the tingles , the piece that makes you think and appreciate beauty. I'm sure in all facets of life each and every one of us has a 'tool" we use that criteria on be it a musical piece, a garden tool, a piece of clothing or furniture, etc. and then in other aspects of our daily exsistence we just say "meh, this is good enough...wtf"
Basically it boils down to "it is what it is" and as my brother said about the LC when I had bought a Lodge enamle frying pan "yeah those just as good honestly, maybe might not last as long but for the price you can't beat em"....so yeah "it is what it is"

Made another curry. It's from a Sri Lankan prawn recipe but I added some 5 spice, thickened it up and threw in beef, onions and peppers to make it more like something you'd get in a Chinese place.

I loved it and Mrs JBJ gave it a 9.5 put of 10.

Another curry. This time a fairly basic recipe from a Pinch Of Nom book (not sure if it's on their site)

Was pretty nice. I'd add some more spices - this just used curry powder and tumeric, and maybe coconut milk but it was a really nice easy curry that gave a pretty good base gravy.

Oh yeah and chicken breast can do one.rs JBJ insisted I used it because that's what the recipe called for but it would have been so much better with thighs meat.

Well look what I picked up :embarrassed:

Mrs JBJ wanted a small jug for making sangria. £8. The casserole was £16 quid!! They had a couple of dutch ovens too but smaller ones I probably wouldn't get much use from.
