I posted this over in EG on HC, figured maybe some here would want to hear it as well.
Since there is so much talk on here about GFS pickups, I thought I'd do a few clips so people could hear them vs. another "budget" pickup, the "Duncan Designed" HB 102.
The GFS Fat PAF came in my Xaviere XV-500. It's an older model before GFS changed the body style.
The Duncan Designed pickup is in the bridge of my Schecter.
I used the EXACT same sound for each guitar, used the bridge pickup with volume and tone knobs up all the way. Nothing is changed except unplugging one guitar and plugging in the other. The GFS is fuller, has a bit bigger bottom end, but is still more articulate. I am using my guitarport. Modelers tend to sterilize the sound. The difference is more apparent through a real amp, I can personally attest to this from experience with my 5150 and these 2 guitars.
Note: I wasnt trying to play anything spectacular, just give an idea of the difference in sound, so please forgive my uninspired and somewhat sloppy playing. I did these clips very quickly, I wasnt worried about creativity or perfection. I didnt use any drums or anything else, just the raw guitar tracks, to let the difference in sound come through.
Clip 1. A vintage-ey sound. First the GFS, then a pause, then the same rhythm with the Duncan Designed.

Clip 2. A more medium-gain sound. First is the Duncan Designed for one whole round of the E/A blues-ey thing. Right after the little fill the GFS comes in.

Clip 3. A high gain metal sound. I'd nrmally double track something like this but since I am trying to illustrate the differences in pickups it is just one raw track for each. First, the Duncan Designed, then a pause, and the same riffs with the GFS.

Hopefully it helps someone since so many people seem to consistently ask about the GFS pickups.
