Hey Rick 381....if my memory is correct I recall you are the Range Rover guy ? Do you know about the Land Rover 101's ?
Apparently there were only 2669 ever made and all Military only. They were made from 1972 until 1978.
We have a junker one which my boss says is a 1975. It sat for like 30 years in the outside elements. It's a heap right now , no gas tank, no nothing really. So this is one of the many beaters I tinker with when we are slow and nothing else going on. It's got a Rover 3.5 v8 and this is one of the 24volt versions...the alternator is like the size of a coffee machine and weighsd like 25 lbs.
So the boss just wanted to see if it even ran and whether or not the engine was good in order to keep moving forward with it. I was completely skeptical but blown away when it actually fired up.i mean shiot it has points ignition and sat for three decades. the Motherfucker is smoother running than most luxury modern cars, not joking (i will say most of those 3.5 and 3.9's in general are smooth as anything ever made). I mean short of a downpipe exhaust leak it just purrs like a kitten.
There is no electrical stuff working, ignition tumbler is frozen, alternator unhooked, nothing. So i ran a wire from the b attery (24v) to the ignition box/coil and hooked up an external electric fuel pump (we use to drain tanks). This is where it gets NON OSHA COMPLIANT *spits* an open jerry can of petrol with a battery next to it *spits again* , some liberal use of starting fluid into the two Zenith carburetors...hooked up my remote starter switch to the starter and ...crank crank crank, sputter sputter, more starting fluid and BAM it ran. So I warmed it up and ran it for like 20 minutes straight and it just purred like in the video....amazing!
I saw a pristine one on Hemmings motors for over 100,000 but it seem like most go for the 20,00o range.
even as is this heap (especially with a good running motor and drivetrain) could probably fetch 5 G if nothing else as a parts machine since they are so rare.
