New Wiggle Stick on my Comet

I just installed a XTrem vibrato on my Harmony Comet. It was a drop-in. No holes drilled. Completely reversible. It seems very smooth and sounds great. I was thinking of adding a Wilkinson Roller Bridge but I use D’Addario Half-Round strings so there’s really no need. No binding.
Any one ever try one?

I always meant to try one but never had the right guitar for it. I think it’s great that someone tried to improve the Bigsby design instead of just knocking it off like Ibanez and Epiphone did.

Interesting… how is the tuning stability?

Very good. This guitar comes with locking tuners and a very well cut bone nut. I use like I would a Bigsby. I don’t really do dive-bombs. More like shimmers and bends. Some may require a roller bridge, but I’m fine without it.

How easy is the pickup switch to use? I'm sure it's possible but, wondering about, on the fly.

That is kind of a bad location but I can live with it. If this guitar had separate tone and volume controls for each pick up I would probably use the switch more. But as it is, I really don’t use it much.

Oh, I almost forgot. This vibrato ships with two different springs. One soft-touch and one stiff-touch. I used the soft one. Once my strings stretched in I have no tuning issues at all. Very smooth operation.

Off-beat question, but does it effect the way the guitar fits into its case?

The guitars I would be thinking about modding both live in hard cases.

This guitar came with a very high quality Mono gig bag. It fits no problem. I’ve installed a lot of Bigsbys over the years and can’t recall ever having a problem with hard cases. This should be no different. Just spin the bar clock-wise to about 8 o’clock and it should fit. That’s 8 o’clock AM or PM. Doesn’t matter.

Off-beat answer.

hey @profgalen! After a month or so, what's your thoughts on the XTrem?

I've come close to pulling the trigger to put one on my Epi Dot 335.

It came with two springs. A soft touch and a stiffer one. I used the soft one. I’m thinking of trying the heavier one. I want it to keep the arm up a little higher. Another fix I’ve used before is putting a penny under the spring. The arm isn’t too low, it’s just that I’d like it a little higher off the body. It stays in tune pretty well but I think I’m going to install a roller bridge. I’ve always used the Wilkinson type in the past. They work really well with a Bigsby. Guitar Fetish carries them. All in all I really like it. It does what a Bigsby does. I like to add a little shimmer with it. It fits in the case no problem. I hope that helps.
