New Irresponsible Bass Day

smurfco

Meatus McPrepuce
The last few months have been pretty rough for your friend smurfco. Culminating in my company's decision last month (right before Christmas break actually) to put me on a "Performance Improvement Plan". The long and the short of it is, I have 45 business days to show "significant improvement" or I will be let go. I've never had anything like this happen to me before - always gotten good reviews, etc - but I think they just want to get rid of me.

In addition to (or perhaps because of) that I've been in a bad stretch of anxiety and depression lately. Outside of work things aren't progressing like I want them to in my social life (I have none) or with the Bird Index (still trying to put a live band together - though we may have found someone to play the guitar).

So over the last few months I've been selling things off and cutting expenses to prepare in case I do lose this job before I'm able to get another one. I've already gotten rid of a few guitars and amps, and more are listed for sale on Reverb and Craigslist (anyone want to buy a Ric 330?). So I had a nice bundle of cash saved up...

...and then I saw this bass on Reverb. A really good price for an EBMM Sterling 4HH. I have been keeping my eye out for a nice Sterling for a while. So I decided to cheer myself up and buy it. Irresponsible? Probably, given my current situation. But I have a couple of irons in the fire for new employment prospects, and if I do get shit-canned I should be able to re-sell this and make at least my money back. Plus I still have a good chunk of cash left over.

Anyways here it is - my latest bad idea is out for delivery.

Work/life mojo.

That should do the job cheering you up. Back in the early 2000s, the band I was in, went from a 5 piece to a 3 piece and I moved back to bass. I bought a MM Sterling (they only had the 1 pickup model then) and by far the best playing/sounding bass I've ever touched. If I was gigging on bass again, I would snag a short scale Stingray. Unless they put out a short scale Sterling. I like the smaller Sterling body.

It's lovely! I'm sorry things aren't gong well for you. You're an immensely smart and talented individual; things will turn around.

Sorry to hear that things aren't coming up roses all around, but that is a beautiful machine! I hope that playing it can provide a lot of comfort when you need it.

Job mojo. Nice bass.

Keep good daily notes on the improvement efforts they request of you, noting any and all improvements you have made above and beyond those efforts. Look ahead to any appeal process you can take. Should it come to termination have your appeal ready to submit as close to immediately as you can. Monitor your supervisors actions during this phase and note any violations of your due process rights, no matter how small, during this phase and prepare to submit those per your companies grievance procedures.

The bass is a bit smaller bodied than a Stingray. The neck feels amazing. This is my only active bass - it has a three band EQ. The five way switch does all sorts of pickup splitting / routing and there are so many great sounds in here.

It's too early to be sure but this may be my new favorite bass...

They really are awesome basses. MM just makes good stuff.

Buck up, Smurfco. It's a Sterling, so there's nothing to be concerned about. Now, if you'd gone ahead and bought an EBMM Stingray, it might have been viewed perhaps just a skotch impulsive, but here, on MWGF you will never get anything but an 'attaboy' for any purchase!
