The Fender '68 Custom Vibro Champ looks like it would be a fun toy...

That headphone amp is light years ahead of anything else in the $100 and under range. They’ll sell a lot of them.

Well I must say that pro reverb really looks pretty good to me, I mean it looks pretty good to me if I look at it and it says what it can do, it really can make a good noise I bet, just what I’m looking for, just the right thing. Just for me, an amplifier just for me! Looks like they put a lot of effort into making something just for me. It’s just for me! Hot fresh pizza, ringer the lava demon the bank do a live if I rid of a dick about it even if I would’ve into the holiday Bubba

obviously.

I dig the champ.

Still making up your mind, eh?

I like the Vibro Champ, just drop the reverb. It is not needed. Simplicity is one of the big things that makes the Champ such a great amp.

Oh fuck. That Pro Reverb is just what I wanted. Essentially a Deluxe with 40 watts to play my archtop through.
Isn't the whole thing with the '68 Customs that they have the Bassman tone stack and gain staging? This Pro will dirt up a bit easier than a regular Pro.

I've been GASing *HARD* for a Deluxe Reverb lately. I compared the DRRI to the '68 Custom and came away liking the '68 but not for what I want it for (clean tones). The reverb was weaker (by design) and with the reduced negative feedback even the Vibrato channel gets dirtier sooner.

The other option I suppose is that for half the cost of this amp, I could have Kevin Nelson turn my 1974 Deluxe that needs to be gutted and rebuilt anyway into a Pro.
That might actually be the better option. Swap the OT and drop in a pair of 6L6s.

What's wrong with it, anyway?

Yes and no. Fender calls it a modified "Bassman" tone stack, but that's just marketing BS. As for the tone stack, it's two simple changes to increase midrange.
  • The Mid tone capacitor changes from a .47 to a.22, but some BF Fenders (like the Super Reverb) have this cap stock
  • The Bass pot has a 18K resistor in series with it...all this does is make it so you can't turn the bass all the way down
I don't think these new amps will have the Custom Channel voicing. This seems more like an expansion of the '68 Custom moniker to any non-historical mod to a historical amp..add reverb to the Vibro Champ, it's a "Custom," make a one channel Pro Reverb, it's a "Custom."

The reason I'm thinking that these have the Custom Channel voicing is that that's how they set up the Princeton Reverb. It's one channel and that's all it's got voicing-wise, unlike the Deluxe.

Admittedly, I'd absolutely love to see the schematics comparing these models.

Also, I think the '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb would be perfect if they put the NFB on a switch or knob and made the volumes push-pulls with the bright cap. Sometimes I want that bright cap and if I get the DRRI I'll probably mod it with a push-pull on the volume of the Vibrato channel.

I'll be getting a micro. I still have my Joe Satriani Ampeg headphone amp and break it out from time to time. Fun practice tool for when I want to play on the couch late at night.

Have you or anybody tried it yet?
