Dogue in teh desert
who knew....wtf knew, not me....
So I'm looking for something for lunch, some takeout or as the Limeys call it "takeaway" I decide BBQ is in order. I look at reviews and stumble across a classic hole in the wall....I mean a HITW WAYoff the beaten path AND it's only a two minute car drive or a 6 minute walk from my house.....I drive by it everysingle day on the way to work and I test drive cars by it multiple times a day M-F...The most unassuming place ever...Used to be Laverna's coffee shop in the early 1990's and then a mexican place and then a Taco shop and now the BBQ. ...oh and it's next door to the "silver room" a textbook neighborhood/dive bar but not a trendy dive bar...a dive bar where you might find the local 64 year old drunk daily from 11-3 and he's the only guy there all day...the silver room has been there since the late 1980's at least and probably since the building was built in i imagine the early 1970's...
The BBQ
The "Brewery/bottleshop"
It's in an industrial area sandwiched between the University of Arizona track and field (which is a few miles away from the Campus) and Tucsons largest school districts school bus headquarters. Beyond that there is industry, self storage and business suites....which leads me to the other discovery today...IRON JOHN"S BREWERY which is even more hole in the wall....it's in a small buisness complex (maybe 30 units), no sign other than a tiny 12x12 in the window. We used to have a customer who ran a surveying firm out of here a couple doors down...Beyond that it's dotted with residential...a literall side street of about 1 mile that nobody other than local traffic would venture to.
So TL/DR i got the best BBQ joint and the best Best/Brewery in Tucson and perhaps AZ/SW within walking distance....Jeff will not have to deliver me BBQ or Beer now
I've only tried one beer so far (German White ale) but hands down THE best beer I've ever had (scary...this could be addicting since i could literally swing by at anytime ) The beers range from 7-10 dollars but they have a 25 cent per bottle refund)
I imagine some of you with a brewpub nearby might've had fresh before and I've had fresh from another nearby brewery but this is like it was just brewed the other day. apparently they only brew 60 gallons at a time and it's all hand bottled
"Our beers are small batch (2 bbl = about 60 gallons)"
Here's the goods
Green Beans, Bacon slaw
Beef brisket
Beer
and here's the Beers (I got the Pedeler (Pils) and Luna Blanca (German White)
(dig the cool archive info)
