National Burger Day: America's Top 10 chain burgers

Steak N' Shake is good if you can get in. The only one nearby is always packed. That's fine since I know it isn't going anywhere.

5 Guys is good as long as you skip the nasty fries.

WhatABurger is pretty good, but not consistent. At least we have them all over the place.

I've had Steak-n-Shake, Five Guys, Whataburger and...that's it. Out of those three, Five Guys is probably best, but SnS gets you there nicely at about half the price.

Never had In-and-Out, but everyone down to a person that I know who has says it is good, but overrated.

Their definition of "chain" seems to stretch it a bit as well.

I've had SnS, 5 Guys, Whataburger, In and Out, and ShakeShack. I've never even heard of the others.

Of those, I think 5 guys is my favorite, but they all make a decent burger.

I made my wife eat at Whataburger on our recent trip to Texas, as it is the kind of thing you just have to do if you are not from an area that has the chain.

I've eaten burgers at 5 of these chains: In-N-Out, Five Guys, Steak 'N Shake, Whataburger and Fatburger. drool0

Ooooh...and Fatburger - when the one in the area was open. It lasted maybe two years. It was owned IIRC in part by Kanye West, but was opened in a rather hidden spot in a small strip plaza in the SW suburbs - why that spot was chosen for the first one, I have no idea.

Steak n Shake, Whataburger and 5 Guys are the only 3 I have eaten at and I love all 3. I'm kind of surprised Smash Burger didn't make the list, they are awesome.

I've been to Five Guys, Whataburger, Steak n Shake, and In-N-Out. After all the hype I heard about In-N-Out, that experience was definitely underwhelming.

And I've never heard of BurgerFi, even though they have a bunch of locations in Texas. None are near me, so I guess that'll have to wait.

Umami Burger and Bobby Flay's Burger Palace sound like places designed to appeal to chubby tourists or business travelers on a per diem.

What the hell? Where is the article, Top Ten Vegetarian Food chains?

What? ???

There isn't even one?

Never mind. :embarrassed:ops:

Miller's Cafe (Space Center at Bay Area) used to have some classic, greasy yet tasty burgers. I haven't been there in several years so I'm not sure how they are these days.

It's been awhile since I've been there as well, but they were great. And I've not been to Tookies since before Ike, even though that was one of my favorites.

My burger cred is slipping.

But your arteries look great!
Tookies has regained my lost faith. They were slipping before the storm. Getting in is a challenge unless you pick mid afternoon.
Stomp's Burger Joint in Bacliff has some of the pre-storm Tookies cooks with the same menu, but I haven't been there yet.

Had Whataburger, Five Guys, Fat Burger and In-N-Out.

In-N-Out and Fat Burger are tied for 1st
Five Guys next
and Whataburger last.

I don't care to eat a hamburger that's larger than 1/4 lb of beef, so I think a lot of those choices would be beyond the scope of my experience (or stomach). I get a single at in-n-out or a Jr hamburger at five guys, and that's fine for me. I also don't like cheese on a hamburger... Yeah -- I guess I'm not a true American..

I've eaten at four of those places: 5 Guys, Fatburger, Steak 'n Shake, In 'n Out.

I like all of them but Fatburger would be at the top on my list of those four - except all the Fatburger locations here have closed.
And while I like them, In 'n Out and Steak 'n Shake are both over rated in my book.

And I like Smashburger better than any of them. We have two local chains I like a lot - but apparently too small to be on this lists radar.

I'm sure none of those are bad burgers but you're also talking about a kind of food that isn't difficult to do well. Lots of small places around here do as good if not better burgers.
