My first Eco-Jacket CD

Gary Blanchard

beloved, local musician
I am uploading the tracks now for my first CD to come in the Eco-Jacket rather than the plastic case. It is a disc of labor songs that has Carol adding some vocals to some songs, and she does a solo vocal on the song Bread and Roses. I found a company that has decent rates for small batches; I could have gone with 50 but it wasn't that much more to order 100. If these come out nicely I will have three of more more recent CDs done this way as well.

Thanks to Mark for the recent thread about packaging that had me searching until I found this company:

I have been considering it but the price for the print-on-demand CD in case from Kunaki was so good that I hated to go to the expense.I am actually getting these cheaper, but I do have to go for the (small) bulk order.

You'll have to let me know how those turn out. The prices are insane for such small batches.

I skimped a bit on the disc printing, settling for black print on silver. I did spring for shrink wrap, though. With shipping, 100 will cost just under $150. A buck-fiddy each ain't too bad. Of course, we'll see about the quality...:embarrassed:

that's a better deal than we get.
by twice.
but I can order single discs, if I want.
I imagine the price would go down if I ordered hundreds at a time, but I usually only get very small batches (20-30) for each gig.
unless it's a new one, then I'll do a few more, as no one will have it already.

Our performance at the New England Folk Festival is based on this CD; I am planning on selling them cheap at the festival and am hoping that will move some discs. We shall see.

Cool. We've been doing those for a while. The plastic cases seem old-fashioned now, like handing out a cassette tape.

Well, I placed my first order. I decided to go with 50 this first time (their lowest order number) so I can gauge the quality of their work. It was only a $50 price difference for 100, but if they aren't good I'd sooner be stuck with 50 than 100. I'll give you an update when I get them. :thu:

When Alligator Blackbird pressed their CD they went with ECO cases.... which were sealed in plastic wrap and surprisingly didn't smell like patchouli.

I paid an extra $10 for shrink wrap simply because I think it feels more professional. An unwrapped CD in the Eco case feels like it might be a used CD. But that is just my own screwed up thought process.

Oh, I agree completely. It's just when you unwrap it, you expect it to have a scent.

I've been advised to take the shrink wrap off when sending promo copies to radio, press, and venues, though. A wrapped CD will just end up in the giveaway box, if not the trash.
