WTF: Morning Radio Sucks!

Kick Henry Jackassowski
I've been driving one of the cars we have for our salesmen. No satellite radio or MP3 connections, so I have to listen to morning drive radio. Is there a reason I can't hear some rock in the morning to get me going? Every rock station has either the morning zoo type show on or the fucking jackass Bob & Tom show. Bob & Tom is the most irritating waste of public airwaves known to man. It's a couple of stupid dick jokes with a 3 hour laugh track in between. I would like to stab them both in their fucking meathead faces.

So my morning listening choices consist of the new pop country dreck, or soft rock dribble. Fuck you Toledo radio!

We're going to have to agree to disagree on Bob and Tom.

My wife hates them too.... I've been listening to them since I was in college and they were just the "Local Q95 morning DJ's".... now they're the "Q95 morning DJ's that happen to be broadcast all over the US and streamed to every corner of the world."

Yeah.... they're stupid-silly.... but really they're just the audio equivalents of the same silly shit we do here. :helper:

If I listen to the radio in car on the way to work, and I usually don't, it's NPR.

My ritual is usually Bob and Tom in the Morning... NPR throughout the Day... and then on the way home (or evening if I'm driving around town) I flip between 4 of the local stations that play different styles of music and I know DJ's at each station, usually in priority of which will play the best music... and once I've exhausted that each of the 4 are playing crap, I keep cycling.

One plays Modern Rock and Metal. Reverend Rhino is one of the DJ's (Ryan)... and we'll discuss Shitty music, Comic books, Zombie apocolypse... you know... the usual.

On Froggy, they play a mixture of safe music... think VH1... and Zac, Mark, and Doug are guys I've known for a few years now.... I love sending Zac crazy bullshit texts while he's on the air... the kind that he needs brain bleach for... so when he's back on the mic you can tell that he's still a little off balance.

The Classic AOR Rock station has (Mike) Raggs on... I only casually know him from events that Alligator Blackbird have done, but it's the Bob and Tom station...

... and my wife and I are also friends with a few DJ's on the Top40/Dance/HipHop station.... but I can only listen to so much Katie Perry, Lady Gaga and Taylor swift before it's just not worth living.

Bob & Tom are not carried by any of the local stations but several local stations have similar shows.

I can't stand the Man Cow show in Chicago.... the irritating sidekicks with the stupid voices drives me crazy.

Yeah Bob and Tom get a bit crazy with the laughing at times.... but when they're live, I love it. When they jump to the recorded bits and songs it's because they're doing weather and traffic for Indianapolis. If you stream it from Q95, you hear the "real" show.

It's not Bob & Tom that drive me crazy it's the laugh track. 90% of the show is laugh track. if I switch to that channel in the morning I almost always just get that stupid laughing. Even worse they laugh at everything. It's like being on a date with a desperate girl that laughs at everything you say. I just can't fucking stand it. As far NPR, I'd rather castrate myself with a rusty spoon than listen to anything they have to say.

I shouldn't lol. But I did.

Anyhow, thank god for satellite radio. Makes my drive time so much more tolerable.

I know... I feel for her, but damn it's hard to concentrate while listening to her sometimes.

Satellite radio kinda pisses me off... because I already pay for Satellite TV... and have those stations. Seems to me I shouldn't have to pay full price to listen to them in my car.

Instead, I plug an FM modulator into my phone and stream Pandora.

I do not listen to any pop radio stations in the morning; they are all a bunch of obnoxious crap with a little music tossed in here and there. I am an NPR person for Morning Edition and All Things Considered. If I am driving east I can listen to WUMB, mostly folk and Americana music. Going west (as I do most of the time) there isn't much to listen to.

We do have a station that' I've been listening to over the past 6 months or so called "The Globe" which has been nationally recognized for it's diverse content.... I listen to them when they're playing blues, reggae, or new music.... but sometimes they're too folky for me. Gary would probably love it. :helper:

Mancow isn't on in Chicago anymore that I know of. Hell, Q101 isn't even on the air anymore.

I listen to Bob & Tom in the morning, myself. I can catch it from an Iowa station the first half of my drive and then a Wisconsin station the second half. It's not generally my first choice, but its better than the local music stations offer, for sure.

For the last time, Bob & Tom don't use laugh tracks. It's real-time laughing from clips of previous shows.

Sounds like maybe you should stop after that second cup.

I like Bob and Tom. I think they are far better than any local morning crap and they showcase a lot of good comics and are huge music fans. The moved them off of the station the were on and I'm not sure where they are not. Plus I'm only in the car 5 to 10 minutes in the morning now.
