Mini Travel Guitars

It looks like I may be getting a new job that requires some traveling. So in order to keep "Mark the Terrible" from unleashing his horrible rath on me for not practicing enough, I am starting a search for a good practice guitar that is compact enough to make it easy to bring on business trips. Anyone out there familiar with any such guitars and where to get one? My next step is to search the web but I thought I'd post this thread first to see if anyone already did the homework on such an item.

honestly, i'd go with a Martin Backpacker. cables and electronics would just get in the way. and it's smaller than a lot of other acoustics.

Where I'd probably look:

Mini travel acoustic - Washburn rover
Larger travel acoustic: Voyage air
Electric: Hofner mini or Aria Sinsonido

I've carried this guitar on countless flights, and it meets the carry on size restrictions for in cabin personal items. The original US made composite models are pretty hard to find for under a few grand these days, but steinberger still sells a wooden version for around 400 bucks that is about the same size/shape.

It is probably worth mentioning that I have played dozens and dozens of gigs with the steinberger, so it is far more than a mini travel guitar.

I was going to suggest the Traveler Guitar Speedster. I've had this one for a while and have brought it on many flights. I paid about $250 for mine a few years ago. They appear to have gone up in price about 50%, so I don't know if it's such a good deal. It's sturdy, holds pitch, and has a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails pickup IIRC. I used to bring this and a Line6 guitar port thinger to plug into my laptop. The pair would keep me pretty entertained in my hotel room consistently. Also, I would carry it on the plane under my arm, so no one would even notice it. I'd have my backpack, a carry-on suitcase, and the guitar. No issues in any airport.

I have the Lestar from ministar
http://ministarguitars.net/

I use an iRig and Amplitube on my iPod or iPad and a set of headphones.

It travels well. I even packed it diagonally in a medium sized suitcase for my trip to California.
It travelled just fine.

When I'm just doing overnighters and I just have a duffle bag, it fits right on top and I thread the duffle bag handle through the gig bag handle and go.

Storing it in the room is easy as the gig bag has a loop at the top. I just hang it on a clothes hanger in the closet and sort of hide it between the clothes hanging on other hangers.

One of the guys that used to teach at Premier is the director of sales and marketing at Traveler if you are interested...I can see if Mr Garvin can hook you up if thats the way you would like to go.

Who makes that folding acoustic guitar? I forget atm :embarrassed:

Another vote for the Steinberger, I wish I could get one of the all-composite ones :(

Or, for an acoustic, an Emerald X7. I'll let you know how they play/sound like shortly :)

I would love to buy back the few composite L series guitars I sold over the years. Probably the worst seller's remorse I have ever had. I even had a super rare white trans trem models. I liked them a lot, and got them cheap when a local store was clearing them out. I sold two of them for 1500 more than I paid for them, each, but I still wish I had them now.
