Lindsey Buckingham Style?

WTF is that? I mean, he's seen other guys play with a pick or fingerstyle, right? What is he doing and why?

Why? Who knows. I guess that is just how he gets the sound he likes.

I always figured his thing as a mix of pretty straight forward finger picking with a more percussive snap on the thumb/bass notes. Same with the finger parts to really accent the notes he wants loud. Kind of a cool sound, really.

I started playing with all five fingers instead of a pick a few years ago, thinking it was some sort of hybrid fingerstyle until I watched videos of Lindsay Buckingham, Jeff Beck, and Andy of ProGuitarShop.com doing something similar, but 1000 times better.
After studying them closer, I learned a few tricks and improved technique, but still relatively suck.

Edit:
I strum with my fingers exactly the same as if holding a pick, but the thumb and index fingernails do the attacking. All other finger plucking is with the tips of the fingers and rarely the nails.

I just have a hard time when Lindsey looks like he's playing ukulele (nothing against them, I play one myself) doing the index finger strum.

Lindsey's a former acoustic folk and banjo player. He took those techniques and still applies them to his acoustic playing, but what's really unique is applying them to electric playing. That said his acoustic voice is just as strong as his electric voice. He's one of those guys that no one can really replicate. The closest I've ever heard overall is Eric Bazilian from the Hooters. The lead singer guitar player in Haim, also cops a TON from him on the electric, but neither sounds exactly like Lindsey.

But again, it's really mainly his banjo technique applied to guitar. Add him being gifted with a unique touch, melodic sensibility, and a bare soul and you have a singular voice. Oddly he layers the shit out of it in the studio, but some of the best stuff is just him and one guitar live.

i always found it humorous how many songs he sings that the girls get credit for. alot of those songs were sung by lindsay buckingham people. wake up.

let stevie nicks go fly around on her witches broom.

You're so baaaaaaaad.

christine and lindsay were the real vocal powers of that band. let stevie nicks go fly around on her witches broom.

Stevie was good and unique, just what they needed at the time to hit it huge. Though in an all around way you are correct. Still love some of the moments Stevie provided.

she was. she sold a lot of records but i got kinda tired of her "witchy woman" act. in truth i bet there are more songs christine or lindsay sang that meant more to me than stevie nicks song. he's a really good singer and her voice is like an angel as compared to baaaaaaaaad^^^ stevie nicks. lmao

A band/guitarist I've never been able to get into. It does give me a chance to post this though :embarrassed:
