RIP

What a legend he was. There aren't many actors from his era still around today, certainly few of his stature. (Olivia de Havilland is the only one that comes to mind.)

I’ll have to check Disney+ for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I loved that movie when it was on the Disney Channel back in the days before original programming on cable.

I adored the 60s Disney Swiss Family Robinson and daydreamed about having an amazing treehouse.

Anyway, w/r/t Douglas...

I’ll try to find some time to watch The Bad and the Beautiful sometime this month. It’s a great one.

Same here. We used to build "traps" in the backyard to take out the marauding pirates too.

I think they still have a replica at Disney World in Orlando. It's a bit of an afterthought these days with the popularity of Frozen and all the other princess movies. Most kids probably have no idea what it is other than a big tree house.

Edit: BTW, Kirk Douglas was not in SFR, however Tommy Kirk was.

RIP Kirk. 103 is a great run and he is survived by his wife of 65 years. Impressive.

Raped Natalie Wood
Allegedly.

Honestly, I don't know what to make of it. She certainly told people close to her that he raped her, and the descriptions were brutal. Douglas may have been, as Hollywood-speak put it at the time, a "womanizer," but was he a rapist?

To be sure, a lot of bad stuff got hidden away by the studios and their appointed gatekeepers in the press like Hedda Hopper and Louella Parsons, and horrible crimes were played off for laughs with euphemisms like "ravish" for "rape."

I didn’t even know he was still alive. Does that make me a bad person?
