Can’t believe this wasn’t posted when he passed away a couple weeks ago.

Anyone who came of driving & wrenching age in the era before YouTube videos probably owes Haynes (and Floyd Clymer) a debt of gratitude for the excellent repair manuals. Detailed instructions, vehicle specific techniques, and great photographs made every new repair job a possibility for the amateur mechanic.

I've got about 6 of those in the bookcase. Some f the best manuals ever. It's really hard to follow step by step instructions out in the driveway on youtube.
 
I've got several too. I seem to recall being frustrated at those books a few times when I'd really need to get in depth and it'd refer me to a "qualified mechanic" or similar.
 
I always used Chilton or even better, Motor Manuals. If you had one of those, you could fix anything, or at least see how.
