Is there such a thing as calico foxes?

I swear, I've seen one twice now.

Coming home from work back in March, snowy out but light (7:embarrassed:0am+) a fox was going to run out in front of my car, but he saw my car, sat his butt down at the side of the road, and watched my car go by.

Definitely a fox, and not a dog or a coyote. I thought his pelt looked multi-colored, but just put it down to maybe a gray fox being a bit mangy from a long winter or some such.

Anywho, I just saw him again last night, almost in the same spot.

Nighttime, and I saw eyes dart across the road about 50 yards in front of me or so. I slowed down, not wanting to run over a coon or possum, and this same fox darts back across the road right in front of me. I swear, he's a calico fox. White/gray/reddish-orange all in a calico-like patchwork pelt.

I need to get a photo of him, but I never carry my camera, and I'm sure he wouldnt sit still long enough anyways.

What do you guys think? A red fox/gray fox crossbreed?

It'd be a small coyote then. This thing isn't very big, and I've seen alot of coyotes out west, and red foxes here, and this thing looks like a fox to my eyes

I could very well be wrong. I wish I did have a pic of it though.

Coyotes in this area are smaller than they are out west. Much smaller than people think they would be. Most of the ones I have shot over the years have been around 30 pounds. They also can have a very bushy tail just like a fox.

My wife's aunt used to keep rabbits...white ones. One year, the cage got left open or something and they all escaped.
For five or more years after that, we saw white/brown wild crossbreeds all over the area.

No idea about foxes.
