I dont own any cargo shorts anymore, the style got too damn long over time and I hate shorts that cover my knees, what's the point?
These days I just wear regular Bermuda style.
I do have a couple pairs of light cotton cargo pants.
They're my go to long pants when its too hot for jeans and I don't wanna sport the chinos/khaki/church dad/small businessman look.

My fav cargo shorts of yore were blue jean material. Kinda baggy, hung just above the knees.
Id buy em again if I could find a pair.
A few years back I tried cutting off some old jeans but they just looked weird on an old guy. I think the youngsters should bring back the 70s and go back to em though.

I have a couple pairs of long-ish jean shorts with a hammer loop and a side pocket, but otherwise have regular jean pockets.
That side pocket was great with my old phone. My new phone is too wide for it.
I think I’ve used the hammer loop twice in probably 10 years, but I was glad to have it.

You know how when a blind person has to rely on their other senses so the other senses are heightened?
Perhaps SO MUCH went into the music that they are no longer aware of physical and material things or maybe the musical creativity just stole from the fashion sense part of the grey matter.
