Is it just normal for restaurant staff to not bring a drink?

At least half the time we eat at restaurant one of us orders a drink that never arrives. Usually a glass of wine (often dessert wine), but sometimes something as common as soda. This didn’t used to happen; it’s become a thing over probably the last five years. Does this happen to other people or do I just have bad luck?

Not here, this is where most restaurants make their money - there's a local Indian place that does good food but is notorious for holding stuff up and asking if you want more booze. PITA on a weeknight but if you're out on a Saturday and fancy having 4 pints of Stella with your curry it's brilliant :embarrassed:
