IR Shootout--The Results Will Shock And Amaze You!!!

Too Controversial To Have An Athleisure Line
OK, here's the same riff, played with the Placater model (Friedman) on the POD Go, through five different cab models/IRs/Sims.
I used the IR I created of a Palmer PDI-09, the actual Palmer PDI-09, the "Best IR in the World," a Celestion 2x12 V30 mixed mics (by Cenzo--free on the Celestion site), and the Line 6 4x12 Cali V30 (160 ribbon) model.
Which do you think is which, and what do you think sounds the best?

I answered on the Pod GO group on Facebook, will copy my suspicions here. 3 sounds best to me, 4 sounds worst. 2 and 4 both sound like V30s to me, so I'm going to call 4 the Line 6 Cab and 2 the V30 IR. 3 and 5 sound more similar to me, so I'll say 3 is the Palmer and 5 is the IR of the Palmer. That leaves 1, which sounds right in the middle, as the "best IR in the world".

I also just fixed my answer based on a typo micwalt pointed out on Facebook.

Like Aahzz, you got #2 right. Which did you think sounded the best?
Thanks for the help. I'm gonna PM you another question.

2 and 3 were my favourite, but I think the big takeaway here is that all of them could be useable in a mix. #4 especially sounded like it was being EQ'd for a track, rather than the sound in the room. To me that screams real deal Palmer.

Uncorrect!!!
But an interesting observation.

This is what I thought as well. They could all be used in something.

As to my preference: 3,5,1,2,4.

1. Line 6 4x12 Cali V30 model
2. 2x12 V30 IR
3. Best IR
4. Palmer IR
5. Actual Palmer
Yeah, I was WAY off...

My first reaction is "way to go Line 6"...they really have a decent IR there, and that was unexpected on my part...
The Vintage 30 sound is so recognizable that I'm not surprised I got that one right...
The Palmer is really well done...that one is, indeed, a keeper...

I've been reviewing the IR creation process, but still have no definitive reason why the Palmer IR came out as bad as it did...running a white noise signal through it should have had the same signature as a mic'd cabinet unless I am way off base in how I'm expecting a cab sim to work...

I’m gonna try again. I’ll keep you posted.
