I leave for army basic training in less than a week

I'm thinking its going to be a lot of :embarrassed: with some messedup0 and possibly some :puke:

I've even heard rumors that I'll have to shower with a bunch of dudes and I'll have to get up early. :(

If you haven't already done so - spend some extra time running and pumping iron. It will help with the physical stuff that is coming up. And be prepared to just roll with the punches on the mental stuff. You will get hit hard and often - especially in the first few weeks. The first month or so seems to last forever, but it does get better. My son did Marine Corps basic last May and I did AF basic many moons ago.

Best of luck to you and keep with it. And thank you for serving - the military is not an easy road, but it can be a good one. I salute you soldier.

Where are you doing your basic - Fort Jackson?

Nah, that's just hype. Rent the movie "Stripes." That is a realistic portrayal of basic training. Oh, and don't forget to call your DI "Big Toe."

What Denver said (again ) - the first couple of weeks you will want to kill your DIs; by the end you will kill anyone FOR your DIs...

Good luck - I served three years in the Army, and for several reasons it was one of the best periods of my life :)

I have less than a week. I've already decided against any last ditch efforts to get in better shape. I'm just going to enjoy my next week to the best of my ability and do some studying

When you say "hit hard and often" is that figuratively or literally

Most of my army research was done with the assistance of the Army documentary "Stripes". That Bill Murray is a real patriot!

Fort Benning

GIMME 20 MAGGOT!!!

Actually, no, wait... I prefer 10. Just all-around more user-friendly

Good luck.

I was going to join the navy, but I heard they make you eat a can of spinach before going to battle, so I bailed out.

Good luck.

I DONT reccomemnd bringing that avatar with you though.

Agreed. I think any of the Jonas brothers would get beat up a lot.

I hope you feel like you fit in once you get there. Best of luck. And, thanks in advance for your service to the country. :thu:

Stripes was my research material but my motivation was "world War Z". I figured the Army could better train me for zombies than college

Have fun. Basic is a mind game. Lots of yelling and screaming and lots of physical labor. No actual beatings from the Drill Sergeants, but you will feel like you have been beaten by them after a while.

What's your MOS

Good luck, and keep a positive outlook. I'm sure you will be a proud addition to our armed forces. You guys are the best!
