I bought another one.

Kick Henry Jackassowski
Despite owning two excellent basses I haven’t played a bass in a long time. Buying something new seemed like a way to get me motivated. I’ve been thinking about getting the Simon Gallup Ultra sig model but the aesthetics of that one aren’t incredibly appealing. But last night I bit the bullet and was about to order one when something else caught my eye—Schecter brought the Stargazer back into production! I wanted one of these for years but the original production run was tiny and nobody stocked them. This time around they’re in stock at Sweetwater so I pulled the trigger and it should be arriving next week.

Well it showed up and it is NICE. Indonesia is the new South Korea when it comes to build quality; this is my second Indonesian instrument that amazed me. Unfortunately I won’t know what it sounds like until Friday because I don’t own a bass amp and the one I ordered ran into a shipping delay.

My amp showed up today and I got to try the bass out. Between the knobs and switches it can do far more tones than I need. And they all sound good. The skinny little neck will take getting used to but I can play a different bass when I need something chunky. I continue to be impressed by Indonesian instruments.

The amp is a Ampeg Rocketbass RB-110 combo. It’s just a practice amp but it does the job well. It doesn’t resonate like a cheap subwoofer which was a problem with the old BA-110. There’s a distortion circuit (push button only) that gets a nice gritty tube overdrive sound. You can also overdrive it by just turning the volume up to three o’clock. Volume output is low, this is not an amp you could rehearse with. The upside to that is you get good sound at bedroom volumes. And it’s very responsive to the volume knob so you can cut it or crank it without getting out of the chair. Lastly, this thing is LIGHT. Picking it up is like picking up a small guitar combo amp. If you have a reason to carry a little amp around this thing is great.
