New Lesson! Howlin Wolf Guitar Lesson - Smokestack Lightning w/variations!

You mention in the video you'd link to a video of the original, and I don't see it. Not a problem for me, but just running QC.

Susie Q was my gateway into the palm muted bass thing you get into at the end here. If this video does well for you, that could make a nice follow-up. Then lead into improvising while maintaining a bass pulse. I dabbled with it for twenty years, and it just recently clicked and has changed just about everything I do on guitar--even if I'm playing something that's been on the setlist for a decade, I'm hybrid picking it, it at least in position to hybrid pick.

Thanks! I forgot the link for the video so I just added that in now.

I was thinking about the Suzy-Q thing this afternoon while I was editing this. I learned that one first, too.

OK, apologies for continuing to gnaw on the bone, but it's the first week of school and I can't turn my lesson planning brain off. La Grange would be another logical next step if you wanted to continue a thread about hybrid picking and finger independence in the blues.

Thats also a thought. I might explore that this week and see if it's something I want to do.

Great choice of tune and lesson! I love playing 'Smokestack Lightning' and 'Susie Q'. Another one that I love using a continuous bassnote on is CCR 'Run Through the Jungle'.
