HNGLSPA day for me

blah, blah, blah...
That’s Geddy Lee Sig pre amp. Haven’t had a chance to plug it in yet but I have a lot of bass practice before amp sim tones become the the distraction.

Since my high wattage bass amp/cab situation is currently screwed (I keep blowing drivers) Im considering just going direct and forgoing the amp. Getting a lightweight portable cab(s) that can handle the power output of my old Carvin head is gonna be really expensive, as is getting a new light and portable high power combo of some kind.
I have a decent little SWR 1-12" 100w combo from the 90s thats a decent little bass amp but its not enough to really hang with a rock n roll band. It has a direct out on it but Ive never really been happy with how the direct signal sounds.
So Im looking for a good bass preamp/direct box, but it needs to work well with upright as well as slab because I dont want to buy 2 units.
Theres a lot to choose from for bass guitar but about the only dual purpose one Ive sussed out is the SansAmp Para Driver DI. Upright guys and acoustic players highly recommend it and the guys on Talkbass that use it say it sounds good with bass guitar, but it seems most "normal" bass players tend to go for something thats more specific to bass guitar.
JHS's Color Box is intriguing, but its 2x the price of the ParaDI.
I think Id also like the JHS Punchline, but theres no info on its input impedance which has to be high enough for instruments with piezo pickups. Ive inquired to JHS about it but havnt gotten a response.
Im probably just gonna order the Para Driver DI and try it. Im sure it will be fine for upright, which is my main inst anyway at least right now.
If its unsatisfactory for bass guitar I guess I'll just have to eventually own 2 units.
If there is another unit out there that good for piezo instruments and normal bass guitar Id like to hear about it.
