DESCRIPTION:
Here is a Bolt-S with a one-piece ash body and a highly figured birdseye maple neck.

Gil Yaron’s latest offering, the 'Bolt-S' finds Gil expanding his own line of guitars with a new design. The idea was to build a featherweight 'S' type guitar, with a '50s style neck shape, better truss-rod system, and a wide array of pickup options that are all based on Gil's new patented AirGap design. The combination of extremely resonant lumber with the AirGap pickups is the heart of the Bolt. In addition, it has a tremolo, optional body wood types and optional BRRW fingerboard.

AirGap is an entirely unique pickup pole design that allows intricate adjustment of the magnetic pull on each string, as well as its relative brightness, deepness, and output level.

Here is a build blog about the Bolt-S

Expensive and ugly. I know his reputation as a builder is heads above the others, but DAMN SON

I feel like he priced it that high to see if anyone would be dumb enough to pay.

I've sometimes been kept up at night, wondering if there is such a thing as too much bird's eye in a maple neck.

I can now rest knowing that yes, there can be too much.

I was going to point out the things that I didn't like, but admit that I could live with it if it sounded as good and played as well as I'd think a high-end guitar would. Then I saw the wanted eight fucking thousand for it. I'm sure it's great in it's way, but I can't image it's 1,000% (yeah I know) better than this, which is a ton more appealing:

8 THOUSAND dollars for a bolt on neck guitar.

EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!!!

Seriously, wtf?

Bolt on necks shouldn't inherently mean a cheaper price. Never got that logic. Just because anyone can screw them together, that doesn't mean there isn't a lot of planning and attention to detail in making a great fit. And yes, a bolt-on sounds different. Better? Worse? That's up to individual interpretation.

I like the neck, but that's about it.
And no way in fuck would I ever pay that much for a guitar.

It's $8K as it's a one off prototype build by a very talented luthier. Trouble is it's a one off build loosely based on a Strat that just about every guitar manufacturer everywhere has produced a version of . On that basis, most of us will be more likely to spend $200 to $3K depending on whether we want a Yamaha Pacifica 112 or a Kauer Arcturus. Justifying that extra 5 to 7.8K on top is not going to happen for us.

The only people who will look at this seriously are full time professional musicians who feel that level of investment in an instrument is justified for them as a working tool, and/or those with money to burn who want something by Gil Yaron because it's by Gil Yaron.

Course if Mr Yaron wants to pass it over free, I'd be more than happy to endorse his products in return.

There's a lot less involved in building a bolt neck guitar. They were designed to be easy to run on an assembly line. So, yes, they should cost a lot less than something with a set neck, binding, separate top, tilt-back headstock, etc.
