Gibson might actually be LEARNING something!!!

Just when you thought you couldn't teach an old dog new tricks, even with a shock collar and a whip.... (exaggeration for dramatic effect only, I would never condone cruelty to animals... Gibson management on the other hand... hmm.... )

I noticed from their Mod Shop and a few other places... there are actually some examples of Gibson Les Paul Axcess... but WITHOUT the tremolo!!!

So we are talking contoured heel, tummy cut, and THICK DIAMOND volute!!! :baimun:

Of course, they're still STUPID expensive... but the fact that they exist at all is amazing.

That is an unusual volute. Dunno that I've ever seen one like that. My Norlin-era Gibson has a "normal" volute on it. Not sure why Gibson quit doing them given their history of neck breaks.

It’s wild to me that Gibson can’t sort their offerings. Standard should be what the Classic line is — a base line normal Les Paul that is a Goldilocks blend of expected Les Paul features, but maybe with some weight relief and minor concessions to modernity. The Classic line should be the vintage-flavored deals — a Classic 50s, a Classic 60s, and maybe a 70s Deluxe. These should be the warts and all made to vintage specs units. And the Modern should be the new and improved — weight relief, volute, ergonomic and materials improvements. A straight pull headstock? Stainless frets? Basically this should be the LP that sorts the known issues and looks forward.

No, no, no. Looking forward is robotic tuners, built-in processing, complicated electronics, and maybe a very expensive Gibson-branded beer fridge. That's what the consumers want! Where's Henry when you need him?!

Epiphone has a version of that guitar (I think it has the heel and belly cut but no headstock volute) for $900 with Fishman.

Oh shit... they have a Pelham one with passives for $700.

Gibson also just announced the re-released of the Moderne & Futura models

Isn't there a reason those models never sold well?

the best part is once you understand what model is what, don't blink cause it'll all change again.
I stopped paying attention to Gibson a couple years ago and went to look at LPs a while back and it felt like homework figuring it all out.

Boy howdy. It’s almost like they’re not trying to appeal to regular players and rather are just doing shit for collectors, shareholders, and forum nerds.

Crazy eyes with the leather jacket should call me to consult. I’ll work for a one week for an R9 in trade.

They’re finally catching up to where Schecter was 25 years ago! But for what this costs it should come with locking tuners. If they offered this as a gold top with the price of a standard I might buy one.

@sholess The fact that it's a Heritage so it is from the REAL Gibson factory, has a headstock shape that should keep the strings in tune better than the Gibson string splay.

I'd like to check out the differences between the staple top in the neck and the P90 in the bridge.

Maybe time to take a drive to Fort Wayne. Don't forget your credit card.

I've recently been reprimanded by my wife not to buy any more expensive gear for a while... and she particularly focused on NAMM (which I'm already booked to be there in January. :embarrassed: )

Gotta sell some more gear.... once I have my Soldano and I know which speaker I'm going to use with it, I may even sell my Mesa combo with the custom tolex. :helper:
