Gibson fires Randall Smith (Mesa Boogie)

I know that Gibson bought Mesa Boogie a few years ago from Randall Smith, but kept him on. Now it seems as if Gibson fired Smith, if the news I am hearing is correct.

Thoughts? Will Gibson end up ruining the Mesa Boogie name?

You really have to ask?

if you folks don't already have a MB (and want one).....better get one before the Smith built boogies $$ go thru the roof.

Has this actually been confirmed? As far as I can see it started as an "I heard from a music store employee...." thread over on rigtalk.

Did they fire him or did he just reach the end of his contractually required post-buyout employment period and retire with his well earned millions?

Just saw this...Smith has a series of new vids talking about Mesa and says offhand, "...now that I got fired" around 4:28. Make of it what you will.

Fluff posted about it and they gave him heat. He took the post down, but it got out.
They’ve blacklisted him.

Yes. Gibson overall.

He’s a long-time YouTuber. They are basically saying that they will never send him gear for review, use his services, etc.. ever again.

That's not surprising at all and pretty common in the whole product review biz where even if you're not getting paid by a company, being less than positive puts your access to future product in jeopardy.

There's a channel I follow that even puts a graphic onscreen for each product discussed to disclose if they were paid to review, given the product free for review, or bought the product with their own money to be completely transparent.

That's actually following FTC regulations. There was a big hoopla in the tech YouTuber community a few years ago about how some creators were "reviewing" products but they were actually undisclosed paid spots. Some even said they weren't paid when they were.

That said, Fluff could have been very key in keeping Mesa/Boogie in the good graces of metalheads. He's got a fairly large following in those circles and having him on Gibson's side would have been a net positive for Gibson trying to say the new stuff is as good as the old stuff. Just from a basic business move it was dumb to cut him off.

...and regulations many other countries and the EU. This channel I'm referring to, wouldn't be of interest to most here, but is the most conspicuous & transparent about their industry relationships of any I've seen in their category.
