Geddy Lee's teardrop bass?!?

I've never heard of it before today.

Supposedly it was a Precision bass that was modified by an expert (baimun? )

A Precision bass doesn't have that kind of knob layout though, does it? A modified Rickenbacker, maybe?

Geddy used it around 1976, a Rush Facebook group I'm in someone has pics that he took in Rockford, IL in 1976 and Geddy was using it.

Anybody here know anything about it?

I seem to remember him using Ricks earlier on. Maybe he had one customized? The pic is small for my old eyes but it looks kinda Rick-like. I gotta look for pics of this. I've never seen him play it. Cool thread.

I remember seeing pics of that way back in the early 1980s. A quick Google search turns up other articles and forums comments on it. Most say it is a Precision that Geddy modified, but I don't know if that is correct.

Now that I have found my reading glasses I can see what looks like p-bass pickups and two knobs. As Spock would say....."Fascinating"
