EVH Wolfgang Standard vs Special

cvogue

Yes, that's Oolong. :)
Anyone have a Standard? I know Mystix just got a Special (very nice!)

So been looking around and the special is $300 more than the standard. The differences that I'm thinking about are:

Standard has a contoured body, more comfy than the special?

Standard has a thinner neck? (Would be good for small hands guys like me)

Standard has a lower end Floyd, seen a few comments out there about tuning stability... bit worrisome.

Special has a D-Tuna, but I've already got one (had an old Peavey Wolfie, sold it but kept the D-Tuna).

Anyway, if anybody has a Standard and cares to chime in, please do so!

Thanks

Edit: Also how versatile are they? My old PV did one thing *really* well but wasn't very versatile...

Someone here on the forums has a EVH Wolfgang custom, too, if I'm not mistaken.

Set neck, 24.75" scale, so pretty much a Les Paul custom in Wolfgang shape. Not sure if they are still being made at the moment.

you pretty much nailed it... i really dig my wolfie but they just aren't super versatile. but then again, what they do, they do so damn well. total rock machine

It kind of depends on the era. I have an EVH brand wolfgang special that has a carved top and d-tuna. The Peavey model names seem to not correlate with features after EVH started making guitars with Fender. On the new one the standard is lower end (flat top, cheaper floyd, no D tuna, import pots, etc) compared to the special, and the highest end model has USA or Custom Shop in the name.

So, I guess, yes and also no, on your question. I have a special that might be the same as the old standard....or something. I have this in flat black with ebony fretboard.

Yeah I worry about the cheaper Floyd on the Standard (and you're right the PV names are the opposite, Standard was the higher end carved top, Special was the flat lower end model). The reviews I've seen for the EVH standard (lower end) say the guitar is "great" but a lot of them mention tuning stability with the cheaper Floyd. Seems like that shouldn't happen with a Floyd...
