DOD jam!

Ghoulish Anomaly
Wow, it occurs to me that DOD has been out of business for close to a decade now, right?

They made some questionable stuff over their run, most of it cheap and most of it mediocre. But really, they had some cool gems in their line. The ice box, milk box, phaser were all solid pedals, I still use a ice box and milk box. I've gone through some of their crazy stuff too back when...had a Buzz Box that I got out of a pawn shop in like 2001 for next to nothing, it was a.....interesting pedal, gave it to a buddy, he moved shortly there after and then I realized it was worth serious cash on the market. Then there is the Gonkulator. That was one crazy ass pedal. They took alot of risks as a pedal manufacture, they made a lot of junk, but alot of cool stuff too. Back when I first started, and was a pedal hound, I ran through a good chunk of their crazier stuff as it was cheap and more or less did a lot of what then "Boutique" specialty effect makers were doing for 1/8th the price. Sure, the switches were only good for a couple of years, but they were not badly made aside from that. Salt Lake City made if i'm not mistaken?

I think I even still have an old school Death Metal pedal somewhere. That was a very interesting pedal.

Any memories of DOD to share?

SLC is correct.

I had few DOD pedals over the years. Most of them were meh at best. However, I have an old DOD 7 band EQ pedal that I got back in 1987 that is a true gem. It is quiet, and exceptionally flexible, offering a huge amount of adjustment. Built like a tank too. I wouldn't hesitate to gig with it if I felt the need.

Back when I was playing in synth heavy bands, it really helped my guitar cut through the mix better than anything else in my arsenal.

I've got a Supra Distortion that doesn't always sound good, but when it does it sounds very good. It's the FX-55b model. :thu:

I saw someone (maybe CL, can't recall) recently selling a gaggle of DOD pedals for $50 each. I chuckled. There were some gems as I recall but most were not.

DOD isn't really out of business, as they were always a part of Digitech, now owned by Harman.

I still love (and use) a DOD 250 overdrive, and a DOD Bi-FET preamp. Oh, and I am putting a really old DOD analog delay on my board for a while to see how I like it.

There are many very usable decent DOD pedals out there and many of them can be found for dirt cheap on ebay! I have got the Classic Fuzz which I like a lot, the green Stereo Flanger which is very good and the Flashback Fuzz which is good for some more out there sounds.

I still have an old 80's DOD distortion pedal mostly because I never bothered trying to sell it. It's pretty mediocre and runs off 18V and the included wall wart had a standard 1/4" jack. Had to pay attention which jack was for the power supply and which was for the guitar.

I only had one DOD pedal. A combo volume/wah pedal. It sounded OK, but it was the least reliable POS that I have ever owned. I ended up just tossing it in the trash after 6 months or so. Pots wore out, buttons wore out, jacks came loose, and the pedal action adjustment stopped working on the wah setting. That one pedal was enough to steer me clear of DOD. So, my experience is really limited with their stuff.

I have a classic fuzz that sound great with my dano baritone. It's the ultimate cheeseball setup.

That's funny, I have the same one some 25 years later. Still works great, too -- I use it on gigs when I need a volume pedal. The wah part is crap, though.

Yeah, mine was gone. I can't remember when I bought it, but it was probably 1986 or so. It just had constant problems. I guess I got one made on a Friday afternoon or something.

I've had two DOD pedals in my time. The first was a chorus that produced more hiss than main signal and quickly got ditched for a Boss CE2. The other was an A/B pedal that still works fine to this day although it is not in use in the current setup.

When I was just starting to play there were only 2 real choices for pedals, DOD and Boss...boss was the more expensive so for me it was DOD by default...If I remember correctly I had, at one time or another...

FX25 envelope filter
FX55 supra distortion
compressor
Overdrive
Analog delay
Bifet preamp
Phasor
Flanger

...and a couple more I can't think of...

I still regularly use this. A DOD TR3R "Rock Guitar" (Digital Delay, Chorus and Distortion). Not a particularly exciting pedal, I admit, but all three effects totally do their job.
