Do you have a recurring dream guitar?

I think we talked here about a house that shows repeatedly in your dreams, but not a house that exists IRL. I frequently dream of a cache of super-stratty guitars with a wide array of features that I always forget I have (in the dream). Usually I won them all at once in a drawing or something, and I remember them when I'm recording something and need a new flavor, or I've got a gig and my usual guitar isn't in service.

Do you have a guitar/guitars that only appears in your dreams?

Yes, I guess. It's like a single cut Casino with center block and a licenced and slightly ornamented Bigsby and DeArmonds. I'm sure something like that actually exists, a Guild/copy maybe? Sonically I imagine it would be something in-between a Thinline and a 330. Burgundy or surf green, a matching amp with trem and verb, and a matching low gain Tone Bender clone would be cool. I'd use it for diabolical dream pop.

How about this?

Yes, pretty much like that! What is it? Does it have a centerblock?

Yes, it does. It's a Dearmond Starfire Special in red. I have a 1999 one in tobacco burst, I got mine that year (I think), so I guess it's the guitar I've owned the longest. I still play it a lot, in fact I played it for a couple of hours today.

Here's mine:

Lovely burst! And I dig the cutaway too.

I've had a few HBs, including one of the 'desirable' Korean Casinos, I just never got along with any of them. It's like the tone carries some extra weight with that airiness going on, so I couldn't make 'em twang 'n' jangle like I had in mind. I figure it might work better with the centerblock, to sort of tighten up the sound and make a bit brighter.

What's it like unplugged, and do you ever play it like that?

It’s a tossup between the Gretsch Brian Setzer Nashville 6120 and a post-2019 Rickenbacker 4003. Realistically I should get the Ric because I’ll never be able to play like Setzer.

I do play unplugged quite a bit, but just for practicing. It's considerably louder than an unplugged solidbody, but you wouldn't want to try and play it like an acoustic to a roomful of people. It's got a twangy, quick decaying tone. The unplugged sound kinda draws one into playing rockabilly-ish stuff. I'll pick up the guitar and start off playing something in a different style, and then find myself doing some Scotty Moore. :embarrassed:

Not really. I keep running into the same issue. No matter what really expensive super bougie guitar I pick up and play I somehow still sound like me.
