Did you have a Huffy?

Theodore

I gotta move
I did. Red bmx. Dunno if it was this one but it's pretty much what it looked like.

Guy's a bit too hyper on the pedals.

I had one of those 5-speed kids bikes that had the small wheel up front and the 5-speed shifter looked like a stick-shift in a car. Whatever bikes those were idn_smilie

My parents always got me the most beat-up, nasty bikes they could find in the classified ads (I learned to ride on a rattlecan pink girl's bike). The first "decent" bike I had was a Schwinn Varsity I got from mowing lawns in seventh grade or so. I used to make 25-50 mile runs on that thing and rode it till it fell to pieces.

Yea.... Raleigh chopper. I remember those bikes being insanely expensive back in the day. When I was in Jr high, one kid started bragging that he was getting one for his Bday. Not a good idea. He rode it to school all happy as F**k and left school that day without his new bike and a couple missing teeth.

I had a shit brown huffy with a banana seat. When I turned 15, I bought a secondhand 10 speed. That thing got me around untill I graduated high school. I remember taking a road trip one summer out to my old freind's house. His parents moved out into the country when he was 12 or 13 and I hadn't seen him in a couple years. I spent a couple hours out there, and the 20+ mile trip back home was a killer. I didn't ride for a week or two after.

I had a Gary Littlejohn bmx style bike. Turns out the east coast headquarters was in the town I lived in as a kid. It was a little tiny local bike shop.

Looked like this...except mine had an awesome Mongoose neck. I also had a set of plastic star wheels.

I had a Kent that I abused the shit out of.
When I broke the frame after numerous fixes, I got my brother to part with his Ross Apollo 3 speed.

Had:
1 Western Auto- Western Flyer (20 inch wheels) Red. Broke in half jumping it on a home made ramp.

1 Western Auto- Chopper (70's model. 3 foot sissy bar w/matching pad) super small front tire. 20 inch fat rear, 13 inch front. Purple

1 Kmart 3 speed bright bright green, first year, 26 inch wheels. Second year 26 inch rear, extended the front forks 4 feet and put a 10 inch wheel on it. Ran it with no brakes, banana seat, and ape hanger bars. Painted flat black and the seat was red metal flake. Broke it half two years later. It looked like hell was riding by and I loved that bike.

1 Montgomery Ward 10 speed golden yellow (26 inch wheels) Broke the crank in half after a year.

1 Sears-Free Spirit 10 speed in cherry maroon. 27 inch wheels, half chrome front forks. Beautiful. Stayed with this bike for 3 years and wore out two sets of tires. Broke a pedal off while riding it hard and wrecked it bending the front rim and forks. Carried it 3 miles to get home.

Second coming of the golden yellow 10 speed by finding a junk bike with the same crank at the county dump. Painted it blue put ape hanger bars on it and only ran a front break.

1 Montgomery Ward 26 inch beach cruiser with full chrome fenders. Last bike as a kid of 12 in 1975. I put saddlebags on it and those black rubber mud flaps. Raccoon tail off each bar grip and 4 curb feelers like they have on low riders. At 13 I'd get beer and carry it in the saddle bags through the middle of town. Where can a 13 year old buy beer you wonder? Well, at the Coke machine inside the the Volunteer Fire Department in the middle of town. In the summer they would open the garage doors during the day to cool it off and the dispatcher would stay in the front office with the doors closed and the AC on.

A no Huffy childhood.

My first bike was probably a Huffy Thunder 50. I think it was purchased in 1985 or 1986, but it might have been an older one that had just been in the store for a while. I think my dad must have bought a huge bike because it lasted for years, and it took me a year to learn to ride without training wheels. I can only ride upright due to neck problems. So I often wish adult cruiser bikes came in this style rather than the 1950s style that just won’t die.

I didn't have a huffy as a kid. Mostly bikes from Murphys, Kmart, etc.

I do however have this huffy monza GT now. Check out the headlights!
