Completed My Other Gretsch Project

Gretsch G2410T Streamliner hollow body. Purchased used for $300.

Modifications: 2x TV Jones Crème mounting rings. A pair of Gretsch Gold Blacktop pickups.

In hindsight, I should have waited. December ‘24, they priced new models, EOY blowout, at $349.

I did have to drill 2 holes on one side of the rings for the pups to fit. Piece of cake. But, I did run into a challenge.

When I went to screw the rings with the pups attached into the body, the holes did not seem to line up perfect.

I’m not sure what the proper procedure would have been in this situation. My solution was to screw, and unscrew, carefully finessing the rings into place. I eventually got them flush against the body, but it took some patience.

Now, it sounds like a Gretsch.

I'm really enjoying this hollow body. These low output Blacktop pickups excel at clean. Of course, they also work well with some overdrive. But, I can plug this guitar into my cheap, 100 watt, high gain, amp head and get clean tones. That amp doesn't have much clean headroom, but with this guitar and these pickups, it's a different story. However, the guitar REALLY shines with my 15 watt amp.

Either of my new Gretsch guitars with Blacktop pups into my VAC Hayseed 15 rig are a great match. It's like the guitars and amp rig were made for each other.

I'm a pedal guy. It's rare that I plug straight into an amp and play for hours. yet, that's been happening with these Gretsch guitars into that VAC head and 112 cab.

I'm one of those no-gold-hardware guys, but it looks so good with that warm wood finish.
I’m not a fan of gold hardware either. It doesn’t age well. The gold is faded and flaking off in spots.

All I know is that the guitar called out to me from a wall in the store. A few short months later, I own two Gretsch guitars and I’m getting into their unique vibe.
