she also should check out Rahsaan Roland Kirk who pioneered that breathing, singing technique while playing the flute.

Indeed he was. He's said himself his technique on the instrument has always been "wrong" (as in not proper classical technique) until quite recently. He just found a way to play it that worked for him in that setting.
