Dan Oliver doesn’t take offense when somebody acts puzzled or tells him they’ve never heard of a Pontiac Firehawk.

Until he bought one and became a big fan of the factory hot rods, Oliver says he didn’t know much about them, either.

“I think I had read about Firehawks but had ever seen one I person. I did a lot of research [after buying one,” says Oliver, a resident of Cibolo, Texas, located just a few miles northeast of San Antonio. “I take it to shows and people never heard of a Firehawk. They have no idea what it is. They’ve heard of the Firebird, but they have no idea with a Firehawk is.”

Huh. Don't necessarily care for that generation of body, but the Firebird package looked a lot better than the Camaro. Pretty cool car :thu:

The refresh of the Fourth Gen looks better than the initial offerings.

I've never heard of those.
Isn't it funny, sporting 315 HP proudly on the hood.....like that was really something.
My Toyota pickup truck has more HP than that thing.

I had 1997 Camaro SS. I liked the 1993-97 Camaro styling more than the Firebird, but from 1998-02 the Firebird looked better to me.

That was a lot of HP in a car those days. I remember when Ford started selling the Mustang GT's again with a whopping 150 Hp out of the 5.0. Shit, we thought that was screaming as it was the first american "high performance" vehicle to be marketed on a mass scale since the smog requirements forced HP down in the 70's.

By the 1990's a 300+ HP car was near hypercar levels.

It cracks me up on the Jeep forums when people are complaining about the anemic 3.6L V6 in the current Jeeps.

They only put out about 285 HP and 260 ft/lb of torque. People complain about what dogs they are.

I have the older generation 3.8L which only puts out 202 HP and 237 Ft/lb of torque, and the thing feels like a hot rod compared to the 3.0L V6 in my old Ranger, which only put out 148 HP and 180 Ft/lb.
