Gary Miller never really had any use for six-cylinder cars. He insists he was a V-8 snob all the way and says he used to make fun of six-cylinders cars that tried to look like muscle cars.
Of course, that was until he drove one that looked awesome and really WAS fast.

Miller probably shares the same sentiments with countless other Grand National fans who fell hard for the menacing black Buick as soon as they first got a good look at one. And if the car's dark, dangerous looks didn’t win people over, the scintillating performance — for the 1980s anyway — was a clincher.

That G body platform was a turd factory. These, and their sibling type T and turbo T, were probably the crème of the turd crop.

I looked up the power ratings.
200 HP and 300 ft-lb torque
Zero to Sixty 7.5 sec
Quarter Mile 15.7 sec

in 1985, that^^ wasn't exactly shabby for stock vehicles of the day.

a 1985 Z51 Corvette was doing 14.5 quarters, for comparison.

Oldsmobile had the Lightening rods didn’t they? 3 or 4 gear levers. One of them was faster than the Corvette in the quarter mile. What was it, 79/80 Corvette had 190 hp . It was sad.

That's just the regular old Monte SS. The SS Aero coupe was a limited edition version that they only sold to the public to meet the homologation requirements to use the body silhouette for NASCAR so they compete could w/ Ford's Thunderchode aerodynamic advantage
Right. That window was only one year. The nascar window was there after.
