Capo Classics: 15 Essential Guitar Songs Played with a Capo

While some are opposed to the capo, some songs where arranged with them.

Here are a couple of my contributions.

Rush - Big Money - Capo on 2nd fret. It is the only way to get the open harmonics that Alex achieves.

Heart - Alone - Capo on 1st fret. This how Nancy Wilson plays the song. The other guitar player has his guitar tuned up a half-step.

Here is Guitar World's list and it makes alot of sense. In fact some of the tunes I want to incorporate in my repertoire.

A lot of acoustic tunes use a capo.....I use one on my electric for one song - Copperhead Road. I don't have a mandolin so I capo at the 5th fret to get some tones that sound a bit closer.

OK Fleetwood Mac "the Chain" and Silver Springs are great.

But just try and play "Never Going Back Again" without one.

Never gonna happen.

Yeah, capo is more common for acoustic. If you really want to stir things up, go to the Mandolin Cafe and ask which mandolin capo you should buy. stirthepot :snooty::fan:

You wouldn't believe the crap that our bass player gets for sometimes using a capo. I think it's funny.

It's because I'd learn a song, then I'd move it to another key... and then sometimes I'd get a bug in my ass and move it to another key...

... and he would have learned the song with certain open strings so it was like "Fuck it... I'm capoing so I can follow your ass  "

That's odd. I have never seen a bass player use a capo. I've played bass in bands probably more than I've played guitar and I've done a ton of songs where the guitar uses a capo, but wouldn't ever think of using one on a bass. I guess without playing chords on a bass, it is just pretty easy to change the key on the fly, but whatever gets the job done, go for it.
